Lakeland basketball fans will have a chance to see a marquee college matchup right here in Florida. The University of Florida Gators are slated to host the Duke Blue Devils in the 2026 ACC/SEC Challenge, with the game scheduled for December 1st. This marks the first time the Blue Devils will play in Gainesville since 1937 and the first time in the state of Florida since 1973. The Gators and Blue Devils are expected to be among the top-ranked teams nationally for the 2026-27 season, making this a significant early-season test. This will be the second consecutive year the two historic programs will face off in the challenge, after Duke narrowly defeated Florida 67-66 in Durham last year. The game is a key fixture in the annual ACC/SEC Challenge, which pits top teams from the two conferences against each other. Beyond the basketball court, the Florida Gators are also building for the future on the recruiting trail. The team recently secured a commitment from four-star linebacker Ellis McGaskin, who is expected to be a key player in the 2027 recruiting class. McGaskin, ranked as the No. 6 linebacker nationally by ESPN, chose Florida over other prominent programs like Florida State and LSU after a strong official visit. These upcoming games and recruiting successes highlight the continued ambition of the Florida Gators athletic programs, providing plenty of exciting prospects for fans both near and far.
